what if any mods will help the stiff throttle? looks like the spring inside the carb can be relocated to another tab, but will this alter reliability? dont want her getting stuck open. Also is there anything cheap I can do to improve the low end response?

You can put a honda thumb throttle on it. I know several people who have done this with great results.

I would do what Brent said, put a Honda throttle on it. I have them on my poolaris' and Daredevil has one on his YFZ now. You can also get a lighter spring for the carb on Ebay and remove the spring out of the Honda Throttle for an easier pull.

A honda thumb throttle will not help you. The spring in the carb is your problem. Do not change tabs it will stick. It can be modified if you know how. It is to hard to explain on here but i can do it for you. It will cost about $35.00. Takes about an hour. There is another secret i can do to help your low end response. I will do it for you but will not tell you how.

The Honda does help also Ed, it has a different leverage ratio. I have the different spring on my 07 and the Honda. The rest I have just done the throttle and have been happy.

We tryed three differant ones and all it did was put the thumb lever closer to the bar. It does not push easyer.

I will track you down Ed... lol. It is a cheap thing to try at least.

You will have to tell me more about your spring theory in person.

I researched this for a minute and you are all right. the Honda does have a different leverage ratio-sits closer to the grip has a shorter lever. resulting in less travel of the lever. If it takes less force I do not know since I havent actually tried it but I would think that less travel would mean less fatigue. The spring can be altered inside the carb or replaced with one for $16.99 and $5.00 shipping from ebay. It would come down to personal prefference. you all had good valid info sometimes it takes more than one set of eyes on a problem to see the solution. Ed as for the secret mod for low end power, are you referring to advancing the exhaust cam one tooth simulating the yz cam rather than the wr cam they come equipped with? actually the same cam just different timing marks. Can you do this today whats your work load like? I will be home in a couple of hours.Again thank you guys.

apperantly the cam mod trick does work but makes it more hesitant to start. I discussed this with Ed he tried it but returned his to stock because of the lag in start time.

I disagree with you ed. i put the 450r throttle housing on my yfz and i believe it made a huge difference i would recommend that to all yfz owners.

Throttle fixed. I opted to load up the quad and drive over to see Ed. He knows exactly what he's doing! My push is now lighter than any quad I've ever ridden, while he had the carb off he got his magic wand out of the toolbox waved it over the carb walked back over, put it on reassembled everything, threw me a helmet-gloves and goggles and he and I started out across one of his fields, I hammered the gas the wheels came up and it immediately sprang to life no hesitation whatsoever I kept it pinned and very quickly ran out of field we went back I followed Ed this time and we came to a creek jump, he hopped over and when my front wheels rolled up to the berm, I gassed it as I used to- it stood straight up and hopped across, now I have to learn this quad again. Whatever he did woke this thing up and it freakin rips! Guys I highly reccomend him. He brought brought out the beast in this machine and it took less than an hour!
